GPD 577 - Techniques of Supervision in Family and Consumer Sciences Education Description: This course will cover the philosophy, responsibilities, and techniques of supervision in family and consumer sciences and other learning environments. The course is designed for masters and doctoral level students. Permission of instructor.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Analyze supervision in its many forms, such as to facilitate effective performance to help our students and our peers learn, and to assess performance when it is required.
- Recognize and evaluate our espoused supervision theory as one of our choice, and work toward matching it with supervision theory-in-use.
- Examine and predict possible outcomes from various models and theories of supervision and correlate them to appropriate situations.
- Perform appropriate observational techniques and evaluation devices to collect data and document performance of the preservice or in-service teacher or employee.
- Perform appropriate supervisory techniques in planning conferences and in final conferences with the preservice or in-service teacher or employee.
- Develop and manage the skills to communicate and determine how best to help others (students, peers, or employees) improve practice.
- Develop sensitivity to the differences of others due to factors such as gender, culture, developmental stage, and learning style.
- Gain a broadened perspective and thorough understanding of research and literature in supervision.
