Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Distinguish basic reading and writing processes as they relate to content literacy including schema theory, comprehension, and second language acquisition.
- Examine how content literacy can impact the learning of content material and contribute to a positive learning environment.
- Apply a variety of materials in the content classroom including textbooks, literature, internet resources and media.
- Demonstrate and plan how to help diverse students use reading, writing and vocabulary strategies to learn content material.
- Analyze the use of various assessment techniques to determine the best method in teaching specific content material that meet the needs of all students.
