GPD 570 - Evaluation and Assessment in FCS Education Programs Description: Procedures for appraisal of individual growth and achievement in FCS. Development of evaluative instruments for cognitive, effective, and psychomotor learning; interpretation of data in the evaluation of various types of family and consumer sciences programs. Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Defend how a variety of types of assessments are used (or misused) in FCSE in light of specific purposes.
- Develop and revise reliable and valid cognitive tests and performance (process, product) tests, authentic assessments, and assessment systems according to research-based guidelines.
- Analyze challenges and benefits associated with various assessments.
- Justify assessment systems for FCS courses or programs based on goals and learner outcomes, student needs, instruction, and other factors.
- Compare and contrast the merits and cautions inherent in important national/state assessment issues such as high stakes testing and inclusion of students with special needs-especially in relation to FCS.
- Propose ways to resolve assessment issues in FCS by considering factors such as: national standards, principles of testing and various forms of authentic assessment, legal obligations, and the current social/political climate.
- Evaluate assessment outcomes in order to improve instruction and student learning.
- Use self-assessment to improve teaching and student learning
