Description:
Foundations of multicultural education, practices and policies for people from historically oppressed groups in the U.S. Discuss contemporary educational issues within the context of multicultural education. Critique curricular materials and resources, promoting a multicultural perspective. Permission of instructor.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Communicate and share their vision for the multiethnic community. Discuss the theorist multicultural education;
  • Compose short-answer responses or essays, the influence of family, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and social class in U.S. classrooms;
  • Analyze the theories of multicultural education;
  • Analyze essential principles for teaching and learning in a multicultural society;
  • Support the learning community in embracing diversity;
  • Evaluate these concepts diversity, ethnicity, multicultural education, cultural, discrimination, assimilation, acculturation, and equity.
