MUS 621 - Research I: Theory and Literature: American Band College


Description:
Application of analytical techniques, specific instrumental knowledge, harmonic and rhythmic structural analysis, and orchestration to critique the artistic and pedagogical demands of specific performances of musical literature.

Prerequisites:
Prerequisite: graduate standing and admission to American Band College program.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Critically analyze elements of musical form, harmony, voice-leading, and orchestration in specific band literature.
  • Select and prioritize elements of musical form, harmony, voice-leading, and orchestration in developing rehearsal plans for specific band literature.
  • Evaluate woodwind/brass/percussion performance demonstrating knowledge of musical form, harmony, voice-leading, and orchestration.
