EDU 551 - Assessment Description: Research theory and practice relevant to selecting, scoring, and interpreting educational assessments. Developing, evaluating and applying tests and procedures in the measurement of intelligence, aptitude and behavior.
Prerequisites: Prerequisite: must be accepted into the Teacher Certification MAT Program.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Apply basic principles of sound assessment practices when addressing specific learner needs [application]
- Select appropriate assessment methods in making instructional decisions [knowledge]
- Develop assessment methods appropriate for instruction [synthesis]
- Interpret the results of an externally-produced assessment instrument [analysis]
- Use assessment results in instructional planning and teaching [application]
- Communicate assessment results to varied stakeholders [synthesis]
- Recognize and appropriately act against the unethical, illegal, and otherwise, inappropriate assessment methods and uses of assessment information [analysis]
- Recognize the implications of educational assessment for social justice [analysis]
- Discern critical issues related to the role of assessment in public school accountability and high stakes testing [analysis]
