HPE 573 - Pedagogical Strategies in School Health Education Description: The course is designed to provide the pedagogical content knowledge and skills necessary to teach comprehensive, skills-based health education in the K-12 setting. Permission of instructor.
Prerequisites: Prerequisite: HPE 572.
Credits: (5)
Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Implement trust builders, energizers, and games into scheduled teaching experiences.
- Implement active learning teaching strategies for use virtually and in-person classroom settings.
- Write cognitive, affective, and psychomotor behavioral objectives that include proper outcomes, criteria and conditions.
- Write formal lesson and unit plans for school health education utilizing the HECAT Healthy Behavior Outcomes.
- Create and implement formative and summative assessment strategies to k-12 students.
- Locate and use quality health education information, lesson plans, resources, and web sites.
- Design and deliver a 3-lesson unit on a selected health topic and NHES skill standard.
