HPE 558 - Instructional Models in Physical Education


Description:
Investigation of current teaching methodologies and trends in instructional design in physical education. Formerly PE 561, students may not receive credit for both.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Recognize current curriculum trends in physical education
  • Interpret how these teaching models can be used in their (or any) Physical Education program.
  • Defend and apply knowledge of various curricular models including:  project adventure, movement education/ skill themes, sport education, teaching games for understanding, fitness-based (PE 4 Life), personal and social responsibility, and culturally studies curriculum.
  • Demonstrate the ability to create a unit plan based on one or more curriculum models
  • Revise units to include model based pedagogical practices.
