Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Examine the basic research methods and theories that sociologists use to study Physical activities, PE, and other aspects of social life
  • Identify ideas and beliefs that constitute dominant ideologies related to Health, Physical Education sports, gender and sexuality, race/ethnicity/skin color, social class, and (dis)ability in American society.
  • Explain how social factors related to gender, race and ethnicity, social class, and (dis)abilities influence physical education, physical activity, and youth sport experiences.
  • Analyze the psycho-social dimensions of a relevant topic related to Health and Physical Education
