For students doing preliminary or ongoing thesis/project research. May not be included in the course of study for the master’s degree. By permission. May be repeated for credit. Grade will either be S or U.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Interpret data and reconstruct patterns of historical succession and duration in which historical developments have unfolded.
Draw upon historical evidence to correct, clarify, illustrate or elaborate upon information presented in traditional historical narratives.
Obtain historical data from a variety of sources.
Formulate historical questions from encounters with primary sources.
Interrogate historical data by uncovering the social, political, and economic context in which it was created.
Provide thorough documentation for research.
Write analytical and narrative histories from primary and secondary sources.
Develop a prospectus in preparation for a master’s thesis.
