GEOL 530 - Remote Sensing Description: Principles of acquisition, analysis, and use of remotely sensed data (LANDSAT, SPOT, Ikonos, etc.). Applied experience using image-processing software. Three hours lecture and three hours laboratory per week. GEOG 430, 530, and GEOL 430 are cross-listed courses; students may not receive credit for more than one.
Prerequisites: Prerequisites: GEOG 410 or GEOL 210.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Have knowledge of: what is remote sensing, history and trends in remote sensing, energy interactions with the atmosphere and earth surface features, sensor systems, image processing and analysis, including: image rectification and enhancement, contrast manipulation, supervised and unsupervised classification, principal component analysis, vegetation indices; real-world application examples, radar imagery, and hyperspectral imagery.
- Use computer-based skills using modem image processing software.
- Combine knowledge learned through lecture with the computer-based software skills.
