Introduction to literary studies and research methods at the graduate level. Required of all MA English: Literary Studies and Teaching Specialization candidates.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Formulate questions and analysis appropriate to literary studies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of scholarly research tools and skills necessary to explore and respond to questions in literary criticism.
  • Articulate and synthesize the arguments of literary critics whose work informs literary studies.
  • Write an extended critical paper that advances a scholarly thesis, utilizes a coherent theoretical approach, and integrates relevant literary criticism.
  • Cite and document scholarly research according to MLA conventions.
