EDAD 589 - School Law Description: An introduction to U.S. constitutional, legislative, and regulative school law, with particular attention to the state of Washington. Covers the legal issues of governance, church/state relations, tort liability, personnel and student rights, rights of handicapped students, property and funding, minorities. Also covers basic legal research skills.
Prerequisites: Prerequisites: EDAD 580 or permission of instructor.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Communicate effectively with key decision makers in the community and in broader political contexts to improve public understanding of federal, state, and local laws, policies, regulations, and statutory requirements.
- Facilitate constructive discussions with stakeholders and policymakers about federal, state, and local laws, policies, regulations, and statutory requirements affecting continuous improvement of educational programs and outcomes.
- Use a variety of strategies to lead others in safely examining deeply held assumptions and beliefs that may conflict with vision and goals.
- Model personal and professional ethics, integrity, justice, and fairness and expect the same of others
