HIST 579 - History of Korea


Description:
This course examines the history of Korea up to the 20th century. It provides students with an understanding of evolving social and political systems and culture in Korean history.

Prerequisites:
Prerequisite: graduate standing or permission.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Examine and evaluate ideas and arguments concerning Korean history
  • Analyze and synthesize various types of primary and secondary sources in Korean history in order to put forward well-supported arguments in the fields of Asian Studies as well as History
  • Compose clearly-written and clearly-presented arguments in Korean history
  • Outline and summarize key events, persons, movements, and concepts in Korean history and historiography
  • Inspect and organize various interpretations of and approaches to a chosen topic in Korean history and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of these approaches used by historians in the field (HIST 579)
