ACCT 560 - Corporate Governance and Professional Ethics


Description:
This course provides an overview of the distribution of rights and responsibilities among different participants in the corporation. Topics covered include agency problems, incentive, and monitoring mechanisms, board and ownership structures, and professional ethics.

Prerequisites:
Prerequisite: admission to the Master of Professional Accountancy Program.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: 

  • Synthesize the principles of good corporate governance;
  • Compose the rights and responsibilities roles of participants in the corporation;
  • Evaluate conflicts of interests, incentive and monitoring mechanisms in corporations;
  • Evaluate the role of the accountant;
  • Formulate professional ethics rules for accountants.
  • Assess ethical dilemmas in corporations
