EDSE 502 - Equitable Differentiated Instruction Description: Provide information about students with exceptionalities, gifted/talented students and students with multicultural heritages; introduce effective strategies for teaching, adapting, and differentiating standard instruction to meet the needs of a range of students.
Prerequisites: Prerequisite: admission into the Teacher Certification, MAT Program.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify characteristics of students who have a diagnosed disability or disorder, are highly capable, and/or who are culturally and linguistically diverse; understand and explain the effects an exceptional condition may have on an individual’s educational experience as well as an individual’s life. - Explain the foundational history, legislation, and philosophies that uphold the rights of individuals with exceptionalities (including, but not limited to students with disabilities, disorders, gifts/talents, and/or cultural and linguistic diversities) to receive an education in the least restrictive environment. Recognize indicators that can contribute to the positive impact and success of an individual’s educational experience; such as the effect of relationships between the child, family, and school; cultural traditions; family values; societal factors; and abilities of the individual. - Investigate research-based instructional practices effective in the impact of the learning process for specific populations (learning disabilities/disorders; gifted/talented; ELL, etc.) (PESB EC Sped 6.4)
- List and describe research-based strategies that support the learning process of students with exceptionalities (learning disabilities/disorders; gifted/talented; ELL, etc.) (PESB EC Sped 4.0)
- Evaluate research-based formative assessments that will reflect achievement in support of specific exceptionalities (learning disabilities/disorders; gifted/talented; ELL, etc.) (PESB EC Sped 3.0)
