SHM 574 - Advanced Safety Management

Description:
Examines the dynamics of safety management in complex business entities, including safety management systems, human error, prevention through design, and management of change, in order to align safety as a core element of business operations. Course will be offered on even numbered years (Winter).

Prerequisites:
Prerequisites: SHM 501 and admitted into SHM MS program.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Develop safety survey and audit forms to recognize hazards in a work environment
Summarize and explain the results of a safety audit using written and oral communication
Prioritize recommendations for controls or corrective actions that are aligned with the strategic plan of an organization
Propose recommendations for effective management of change within an organization
Evaluate the role of human factors in organizational culture change
