SAA 570 - Legal Liability and Risk Management


Description:
Lecture and discussion course on general legal terminology, personal and tort law, and methods used to implement organizational risk management programs. By instructor permission. Formerly HPE 570, students may not receive credit for both.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Evaluate and assess applications of the legal foundation of school law.
  • Summarize the legal concepts of negligence, torts, and duty as they relate to the management of athletic programs.
  • Evaluate event safety, security, and risk management protocols.
  • Argue the effects of Constitutional Law (i.e., 1st, 4th, 5th, & 14th Amendments), on litigation and risk management strategies.
  • Assess athletic program compliance with Title IX, and propose solutions where compliance is lacking.
  • Propose strategies for addressing forms of sexual harassment and child abuse.
