SAA 587 - Governing Organizations in Sports and Athletics Description: This course provides students with the knowledge and understanding of the agencies that regulate, support, and review sport and athletic programs, such as the NCAA, NFHS, WIAA, and other athletic-related associations. By instructor permission. Formerly HPE 587, students may not receive credit for both.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Summarize the histories of the governing agencies in select sports.
- Compare and contrast the differing responsibilities of National and State sports and athletic organizations.
- Summarize the basic governing responsibilities of the NCAA, and apply specific bylaws to case-study issues.
- Evaluate specific athletic program handbooks to assess compliance with appropriate National and State coach and athletic director associations.
- Assess the role specific athletic director and coach associations have in the development and review of coaches and programs.
