ART 341 - Intermediate Wood Design

Design and fabrication of furniture forms. Emphasis on creative form development utilizing sophisticated fabrication and finishing processes. Class meets five hours per week.

Prerequisite: ART 241.

Design and create furniture forms



Students will complete a variety of assignments that may include preliminary sketches, working drawings and final form


Apply creative problem solving and critical thinking skills related to studio furniture design and fabrication



Students will complete assignments using creative solutions


Demonstrate proficiency in shaping, fabricating and finishing wood and wood-based materials



Students will complete assignments using appropriate tools and finishing processes


Design works that incorporate conceptual content



Discussions, preliminary designs, and completed assignments


Demonstrate knowledge of issues relating to studio, tools and material, safety



Oral or written test to establish student understanding of safety issues
