Teaching Endorsement
This major partially satisfies the criteria for a teaching endorsement in Visual Arts, qualifying students to teach art at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Students who successfully complete this major and the Educational Foundations Program (an alternative to the Professional Education Program) are eligible to apply for Washington State teacher certification. In addition to completing graduation requirements, teacher certification candidates must meet all Washington State teacher certification requirements. See an education advisor as soon as possible to develop a course of study.
Graduation Requirements
Plan GPA of 2.25. No grade lower than a C in any course applied to the major.
Program Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Implement 2D and 3D design principles to create compelling and effective works of art and design in a variety of media.
- Analyze and critique works of art and design in verbal and written forms.
- Apply knowledge of the relationship between art and educational principles and practices to design and implement culturally responsive and pedagogically sound instruction in art.
- Implement and assess art curriculum that aligns with state standards.
- Formulate a philosophy of teaching art in written papers.
- Analyze historical and contemporary works of art and design originating from various global contexts.
