Art BFA, Graphic Design Specialization

The Bachelor of Fine Arts, graphic design specialization is a comprehensive studio art degree for students desiring careers in graphic design/visual communications. Critical thinking through the exploration of digital and print media is emphasized. After completion of the art core and pre-graphic design prerequisites, students are required to complete the graphic design concentration requirements, including an internship.

Program Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Generate original, creative examples of graphic design concepts and compositions
  • Combine conceptual thinking and creative processes to solve visual communication problems
  • Identify design-related problems and develop innovative, creative, human-centered solutions for businesses, communities, cultures, and people
  • Develop workflow processes based on industry-standard methods, technology, and best practices
  • Develop appropriate conceptual strategies for specific target audiences, and design, produce, and implement those concepts effectively
  • Produce client-driven projects, corporate identities, campaign designs and examples of visual brand development
  • Create computer-based multimedia, motion graphics, and interactive web and mobile application designs
  • Develop an understanding of the business of design and individual entrepreneurship
  • Analyze historical and contemporary works of art and design originating from various global contexts
  • Develop a professional portfolio to submit to potential employers

Bachelor of Fine Arts Core


Admission Requirements
All new Art and Design majors can select from any of the degree programs, BA in Art, BA in Art Education, BFA Studio Art or BFA Graphic Design.

To continue in the BFA degree programs students must:

  • Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA in all art and design classes.
  • Present to the faculty a portfolio of work during a junior year review.
