The aviation curriculum is designed to provide a solid foundation in the liberal arts as well as a thorough education and training in a technical discipline. The professional pilot major prepares graduates for entry level careers as a pilot in the airline and corporate aviation sectors. The degree is approved by the FAA to certify graduates for an ATP certificate with reduced aeronautical experience (R-ATP).
Students complete a core which provides the aeronautical knowledge and practical experience necessary to earn an FAA commercial pilot certificate. After completing the core, the students will have the option of earning their multiengine or CFI rating (or both) and choose AVP and AVM elective courses which will best fit their career goals. Students admitted with an FAA private pilot certificate must pass a program transition course prior to beginning flight training. Anyone with an instrument rating or commercial pilot certificate not earned at CWU is ineligible for this degree.

Students must be admitted to CWU and then complete a separate application for the professional pilot degree.
Program Requirements
To continue in flight training a student must earn a minimum grade of B- in select ground courses (AVP 141, AVP 142, AVP 241, AVP 242, AVP 354), and a minimum grade of B in select flight courses (AVP 101, AVP 102, AVP 103, AVP 201, AVP 202, AVP 203, AVP 304, AVP 305, AVP 306).

Program Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- apply the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to fly commercial transport aircraft in a safe and efficient manner;
- interpret, calculate, and analyze meteorological, aerodynamic, performance, and loading factors to conduct safe and efficient commercial flights;
- describe the physiological and psychological limitations to flight crew performance and effectively cope with these limitations in the flight environment;
- demonstrate a working knowledge of various aviation industry sectors to include airspace system management, airline operations, and aviation support facilities; and
- exhibit the verbal and written communication skills needed to interact with operations professionals, staff, and management in aviation organizations and firms.
