Department Information

Students interested in pursuing an area of scholarly inquiry which falls outside the purview of an established academic department or program of the University may apply for admission to the individual studies program. This academic program offers students an opportunity to develop, under the guidance of faculty advisors, a major which meets their specific needs. Major areas of study are typically interdisciplinary

Admission


Applicants must have completed 60 credit hours of study with a minimum 2.25 cumulative GPA and be in academic good standing for admission. All proposal materials must be submitted to The associate vice president for undergraduate studies at least three quarters prior to anticipated graduation, unless approved by the associate vice president for undergraduate studies. Proposals are subject to review and approval of an advisory committee which meets quarterly.

Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Music

Detailed written procedures directing proposal preparation are available at http://www.cwu.edu/~avpugrad/individualstudy.html. The proposal must include a unique title, statement of purpose, a listing of courses comprising the major, and support from a faculty advisor. The course of study should include a minimum of 60 credits including at least two separate subject areas; 30 of the credits must be upper division. IS 487, End of Program Assessment must be included in the course of study.
