ABS 380 - Black Film and TV Studies Description: This course critically examines films/TV written, produced, or directed by and about Blacks and how it shapes socio-cultural and socio-political perceptions of blackness. May be repeated under a different subtitle for up to 10 credits.
Prerequisites: Prerequisite: satisfaction of the General Education K1: Academic Writing II requirement.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Differentiate common tropes or character types of a specified Black film or TV studies genre.
- Analyze a specified Black film or TV studies genre and the ways that Black directors and Black actors work to resist and/or reinforce perceptions of blackness.
- Apply basic film analysis and terminology (narrative form, auteur, cinematography, set design, sound, etc.) to describe a specified Black film or TV studies genre.
- Synthesize the works of key actors, producers, and/or directors of a specified Black film or TV studies genre.
- Analyze a specified Black film or TV studies genre through a variety of theoretical and historical lenses, particularly attuned to African diaspora history and culture.
