EDSE 310 - Foundations of Special Education Description: Designed to introduce prospective teachers to the legal requirements of special education and skills for collaborative relationships in the multidisciplinary team process. EDSE 302, EDSE 310, and ELEM 333 are equivalent courses; students may only receive credit for one.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify models, theories, philosophies, and regulatory history that form the basis for current research regarding best practices in special education.
- Create a personal philosophy regarding teaching of students with disabilities, including its relationship to/with general education.
- Explain the definition, prevalence, characteristics, educational needs, interventions, and resources available related to specific disability categories within the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
- Analyze the diversity and dynamics of students, families, schools, and communities as related to effective collaboration and instruction for students with diverse learning needs.
- Examine the rights and responsibilities, and advocacy related to individuals with disabilities.
