Description:
Gather, write and report news stories for newscasts to be aired on cable and/or distributed online and through social media. In managerial positions: plan and produce newscasts. May be repeated up to 24 credits.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Conduct broadcast interviews in a professional setting.
Develop news judgement and identify stories of significance to the audience.
Write broadcast style.
Produce an as-if-live report or a studio hit to demonstrate their ability to communicate story messages.
Rrewrite stories for use in other media.
Employ professional code of ethics when dealing with ethical dilemmas pertaining to gathering and reporting news.
For students who have roles of managers only: Identify story running order during a newscast as part of the role of news producer.
For students who have roles of managers only: Create a newscast that incorporate news values.
For students who have roles of managers only: Demonstrate concern for professional standards for each newscast.
For students who have roles of managers only: Mentor and train reporters.
