ECON 320 - Agricultural Economics and Policy


Description:
Role of agriculture in the U.S. and world economies; consumers and businesses in agricultural markets; topics include commodity pricing, macroeconomic impacts, international trade, market structure, externalities. Government policies applied to agriculture (subsidies, crop insurance, finance).

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe the role of agriculture in the national economy, and in international trade
  • Apply microeconomic principles, such supply and demand, market structure, elasticity, to agricultural markets
  • Apply macroeconomic principles, such as study of business cycles, trade policy, and labor migration, to agricultural markets
  • Analyze government policies and regulations addressing agricultural issues, such as subsidies, price supports, crop insurance
