Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe how language can differ in terms of grammar and vocabulary.
  • Explain the importance of language in doing anthropological research and fieldwork.
  • Describe theories regarding language origin and how and why language develops in various ways.
  • Name and define the design features of language.
  • Explain how sociocultural factors bring about language variations and innovations and how they are studied.
  • Apply methods and techniques used in linguistic anthropology for language analysis.
