ENG 574 - Professional Writing with New Media

Description:
This advanced writing course introduces students to the theoretical and practical aspects of a specific professional writing genre or specialization involving new media. Course will be offered every year. ENG 474 and ENG 574 are layered courses, students may not receive credit for both. May be repeated up to 15 credits under a different subtitle in the same career (i. e. undergraduate or graduate).

Prerequisites:
Prerequisites: admission to the MA in Professional and Creative Writing Program or by instructor permission.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Engage in advanced scholarly discourse surrounding current case studies or critical analyses for a specific multimedia-based professional writing genre.
Demonstrate an advanced writing process that incorporates revision in response to instructor and peer response feedback.
Analyze specialized audiences and fulfill a specific rhetorical purpose by adapting advanced professional writing theories and principles for these audiences.
Evaluate and critique the theoretical, ethical, and practical issues facing writers in a specific multimedia-based professional writing genre.
Analyze and critique a small selection of cases or texts related to a specific multimedia-based professional writing genre, using appropriate theories and research methods.
Synthesize the theoretical and practical elements of a specific multimedia-based professional writing genre, culminating in the final project for the course.
Demonstrate the ability to generate new knowledge in a specific multimedia-based professional writing genre or specialization.
