PSY 563 - Behavioral Treatment of Autism Description: This course will address issues related to the treatment of autism. The course focuses on evidence-based social, communication, and behavioral skill acquisition interventions based on the principles of applied behavior analysis. Acceptance into ABA program or by permission.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe and define Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and characteristics of individuals with ASD.
- Describe and compare current evidence-based interventions for ASD (e.g., discrete trial training, naturalistic teaching, incidental teaching, pivotal response training, functional communication training).
- Develop intervention plans and materials (e.g., picture activity schedules).
- Explain interventions for ASD across the life-span.
- Describe ethical issues in ASD treatment (e.g., fad treatments, vulnerable caregivers).
