Analyzes the relationship between individuals, religions and religious movements, and the state from the pre-Columbian era to the present. HIST 460 and HIST 560 are layered courses; students may not receive credit for both.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Explain relationships between individuals, the state, and religion in Latin America.
Defend a thesis statement (an historical assertion argued with facts and logic).
Use continuity and change over time as devices of historical development.
Synthesize learning with basic ideas, beliefs, and concepts of various religious groups in Latin America.
Incorporate research into classroom presentation.
