PSY 578 - Applied Clinical Neuroscience Description: Neurological and physiological bases of various psychological disorders, brain injury and repair, and pharmacological treatment of clinical disorders. Acceptance into a Masters program at CWU or permission of instructor.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify and explain the function of the major divisions, subdivisions and components of the central nervous system (CNS)
- Identify the classes and subtypes of cells of the CNS and explain the function of each
- Explain the process of neurotransmission and the role of various neurotransmitters as they relate to psychological/psychiatric disorders
- Define and explain factors involved in neuroplasticity
- Explain the mode of action and neurological effects of various psychoactive drugs
- Describe and apply the various techniques used to study the functioning of the CNS
- Explain what is known and unknown about the pathophysiology and treatment of various developmental and adult-onset disorders
- Gain an in-depth knowledge of a disorder and be able to synthesize and integrate the research findings and limitations concerning the pathophysiology of the disorder
