PSY 568 - Clinic Orientation Crisis and Rehabilitation Counseling


Description:
This course covers the essential elements of clinic orientation– focusing on clinic paperwork and supervision–, crisis and rehabilitation counseling. Permission of department.

Prerequisites:
Co- or Prerequisite: PSY 560. Admittance to the mental health counseling program.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Construct a self-care plan.
  • Evaluate the utility of self-care plan. 
  • Explain the purposes of supervision and how to best utilize supervision.
  • Articulate the effects of crisis, disaster, and trauma on diverse individuals across the lifespan including the impact of crisis and trauma on individuals with mental health diagnosis 
  • Apply different suicide prevention models and strategies to cases presented in class 
  • Engage in providing crisis intervention including trauma-informed, and community-based strategies, such as psychological first aid 
  • Design mental health assessment reports, treatment plans, and case notes that address biopsychosocial conceptualizations
