Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Become familiar with the historical development of theoretical orientations to the study of learning.
- Demonstrate mastery of critical terms and concepts from the field of learning and behavior.
- Communicate in the language and format of the disciplines of learning and behavior.
- Read, comprehend and discuss technically sophisticated experimental procedures, data analysis methods, theoretical arguments and interpretations specific to behavioral psychology.
- Critically evaluate research designs, data collection methods and interpretations within the field of learning and behavior.
- Generate meaningful criticisms and relevant questions based on recent research articles.
- Generate and operationally define scientifically interesting questions in the area of learning and behavior.
- Discuss the relevance of the theories and findings from the field of learning from an interdisciplinary perspective.
- Recognize the continuity of species and the relevance of animal models of behavior.
- Develop the ability to formally present technical information and conceptually sophisticated material in a lecture/discussion format.
- Engage in professional, scholarly debate regarding theory, research questions, experimental methods, data analyses and interpretation.
