HIST 595 - Graduate Research


Description:
For students doing preliminary or ongoing thesis/project research. May not be included in the course of study for the master’s degree. By permission. May be repeated for credit. Grade will either be S or U.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Interpret data and reconstruct patterns of historical succession and duration in which historical developments have unfolded.
  • Draw upon historical evidence to correct, clarify, illustrate or elaborate upon information presented in traditional historical narratives.
  • Obtain historical data from a variety of sources.
  • Formulate historical questions from encounters with primary sources.
  • Interrogate historical data by uncovering the social, political, and economic context in which it was created.
  • Provide thorough documentation for research.
  • Write analytical and narrative histories from primary and secondary sources.
  • Develop a prospectus in preparation for a master’s thesis.
