EDEC 322 - Parent Involvement


Description:
Parent-child and parent-school interactions as educational and developmental aids. Emphasis upon the school’s use of the home and community for educational purposes.

Prerequisites:
Prerequisites: EDEC 321. Co-requisites: EDEC 411 and EDEC 412.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe facets of parent involvement, including but not limited to: communication, parenting, learning at home, volunteering, decision making and community collaboration.  [knowledge]
  • Interpret family games by skills and standards. [comprehension]
  • Collaborate with the community through volunteerism. [application]
  • Examine perspectives of parent involvement (using Epstein’s Framework) by interviewing one or more of the following: parent, in-service teacher, child. [analysis]
  • Align early childhood standards with learning activities. [synthesis]
  • Determine a personal philosophy of parent involvement. [evaluation]
