Course Descriptions


      Courses numbered from 101–299 are lower-division courses, primarily for freshmen and sophomores; those numbered from 300–499 are upper-division courses, primarily for juniors and seniors. The numbers 296, 396, 496, and 596 designate individual study courses and are available for registration by prior arrangement with the course instructor and approval of the department chair.

The number in parentheses following the course title indicates the amount of credit each course carries. Variable credit courses include the minimum and maximum number of the credits within parentheses.

    Description:
    Further study of construction and fabrication for the stage. Emphasis on patterning, dyeing, and distressing costumes for the stage.

    Description:
    Advanced study in fabric manipulation and the construction of costume crafts, and properties. Special focus on advanced dying techniques, fabric painting, distressing, millinery, jewelry, manipulation, and body padding.

    Description:
    Fundamentals and practice in writing full-length dramatic scripts from concept to working draft, in a variety of areas such as: musical theatre libretto, radio plays, reader’s theatre, and stage plays from films.

    Description:
    The study and practice of advanced skills, techniques, and safety factors used in staging and performing armed combat for the stage and media. Focus is on historical weaponry such as a single sword, rapier, and dagger, broadsword, and small sword.

    Description:

    Description:
    Basic principles of sound design for theatre. The role of the sound designer in planning and developing a design with attention to research, cueing, the creation of media in supporting the production concept.

    Description:
    This course explores production management theory and practice, covering production estimating and budgeting, scheduling, and working with entertainment union contracts. Students will develop organization and communication skills specific to the duties of the production manager.

    Description:
