(NOTE: Students seeking a B.A. degree must complete one year college/university study or two years high school study of a single foreign language.)

General Studies – Humanities

This division of general studies is for the students whose primary interest in the humanities requires interdisciplinary programs and course selections which are not possible within single academic programs or established curricula.

General Studies-Humanities 62 Credit Major


60 credits must be taken from the list of courses approved for the Humanities Major, 45 of which must be upper division.

GEN 289 (1) and GEN 489 (1) are required courses.

Required Courses


  • 60 credits must be taken from the list of courses approved for the Humanities Major, 45 of which must be upper division. Students specializing in Humanities must take courses in at least three disciplines within the Major. No more than 15 credits may be numbered 490 Credits: (60)

Total Credits: 62


General Studies-Humanities 47 Credit Major


45 credits must be taken from the list of courses approved for the Humanities Major, 30 of which must be upper division.

In addition, a 45 credit major must complete either a traditional departmental minor (20-45 credits) or a second major, which may be either a traditional major or a General Studies major in either Social Science or Natural Science. GEN 289 (1) and GEN 489 (1) are required courses.

Required Courses


  • 45 credits must be taken from the list of courses approved for the Humanities Major, 30 of which must be upper division. Students specializing in Humanities must take courses in at least three disciplines within the Major. No more than 10 credits may be numbered 490. Credits: (45)

  • In addition, a 45 credit major must complete either a traditional departmental minor (20-45 credits) or a second major, which may be either a traditional major or a General Studies major with a different major. Credits: (20 to 45)

Total Credits: 67 to 92
