SHM 581 - Advanced Industrial Hygiene Description: Covers industrial hygiene from the perspective of an EHS executive. Topics include: exposure assessment strategies, control and hazard banding, emergency response, reviewing industrial hygiene reports, ethical considerations, and communication of exposure data.
Prerequisites: Prerequisite: admitted into SHM MS program.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the interactions of physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic agents, factors and/or stresses with the human body.
- Examine qualitative and quantitative aspects of exposure assessment and risk characterization based on modes of entry into the human body.
- Recommend and design engineering, administrative, and other controls to reduce or eliminate hazards.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform hazard and control banding as part of the exposure assessment process.
- Evaluate an industrial hygiene exposure assessment report and communicate the results.
- Develop an industrial hygiene exposure assessment plan.
- Explain the ethical considerations of conducting industrial hygiene exposure assessments.
