SHM 576 - EHS Program Management


Description:
Discusses the interactions of environmental, health, safety, and sustainability programs and management needs based on regulatory requirements and best practices, including development of contract requirements, contractor evaluation, budgeting, and staffing. Course will be offered on even numbered years (Spring).

Prerequisites:
Prerequisite: admitted into SHM MS program.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an ability to develop and deliver an effective business pitch to management related to EHS.
  • Implement EHS program elements and interventions that optimize both business and EHS performance through a systematic approach.
  • Identify best practices that align EHS improvements with organizational priorities.
  • Develop a system to select contractors based on historical EHS performance.
  • Develop an EHS staffing plan that includes recruiting, hiring, retaining, and developing EHS leaders.
  • Develop an EHS budget for a business entity in alignment with the strategic plan.
