STEP 101 - Scientific Perspectives and Experimentation I Description: First course in three-quarter freshman science series. Students will take an interdisciplinary approach toward scientific research centered on a single theme. Students must take STEP 101, 102, and 103 to receive credit for First Year Experience: Quantitative Reasoning. Course will be offered every year (Fall). NS-Applications Natural Science.
Prerequisites: Prerequisite: enrollment in the STEP program or by permission.

Learner Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Use scientific concepts and processes to investigate a scientific problem important to society.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to address scientific questions.
- Critically read and summarize scientific literature.
- Apply scientific concepts and processes to write a hypothesis driven scientific proposal.
- Find and use scientific literature to justify a hypothesis driven scientific proposal.
- Communicate in writing and orally to a scientific audience.
