EDSE 520 - Behavioral Intervention for Students with Disabilities


Description:
This course examines the evidence based and practical strategies for evaluating and implementing behavioral interventions for students with disabilities.

Prerequisites:
Prerequisite: admission to the Masters of Education, Special Education Program.

Learner Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student/teacher candidate will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the effects of the cultural and environmental milieu of the individual and the family on behavior and learning CEC Standard 2: ACC2Kl CTL Standard: 1
  • Demonstrate understanding of how using the national and state education laws and regulations can assist in providing appropriate services for students with behavioral needs CEC Standard 1: ACC1K4, ACC1K5, LDSlKl
  • Demonstrate understanding of how behavioral interventions can promote a free appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment CEC Standard 1: ACC1Sl CTL Standard: 1
  • Identify current research on effective teaching and program development for individuals with behavioral disabilities CEC Standard 2: LDS2Kl, and LDS2K2 CTL Standard: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7
  • Demonstrate understanding of how to coordinate educational standards to the needs of individuals with behavioral needs CEC Standard 2: ACC2S3, Standard 5: SA5K3 CTL Standard:  1; 3; 4; 6; 7
